Addressing the largest threat to eye health this century
Roys
The World Health Organisation has classified Myopia as the leading threat to eye health this century. They have concluded that by 2050, half of the world's population is projected to be myopic. One billion are expected to have high myopia, a severe state of the condition that can lead to retinal disease with an increased risk of blindness. We aimed to address this concern in a science-based, kid-approved solution, designed to meet the need at scale.

Addressing the largest threat to eye health this century for Roys

Between 2018 and 2050, worldwide blindness associated with myopia will triple, and estimates of a total societal cost associated with myopia will reach US $1.7 Trillion. Compared to costs of other major comorbidities in the US in 2018, myopia already ranks 11th, ahead of congestive heart failure, lung and breast cancer.

The two leading causes of myopia are genetics and environmental factors. While genetics are beyond our control, the increase of screen time, longer durations of school work, and the value engineering of LEDs that light our environment, all contribute to this rapid prevalence of the condition.

It has been identified that with exposure to a specific spectrum of light, light that our environments have successfully eliminated, we can reverse the malformation of the eye when in childhood and therefore mitigate the progress of myopia. Our solution deploys a passive technology that emits a healthy spectrum of light, therefore promoting and stimulating healthy eye development.
